Africa bishops speak of Obama in religious terms - GAG!!!

VATICAN CITY (AP) - African bishops attending a Vatican meeting are speaking about the election of Barack Obama in divine terms—putting them very much at odds with many of their U.S. counterparts.

Archbishop Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle of Accra, Ghana said Wednesday that there was "a divine plan behind" Obama's election.

"It's like the biblical story repeating itself," he told reporters, citing the Old Testament figure Joseph, who after being sold into slavery in Egypt ends up becoming a top official.

"We believe God has his own plans. God directs history," he said of the U.S. election. "We pray that it (Obama's presidency) brings blessings for Africa and the whole world."

He acknowledged that Obama has earned the wrath of many conservative American bishops because of his support for abortion rights. Earlier this year, dozens of U.S. bishops denounced the leading U.S. Catholic university, Notre Dame, for giving Obama an honorary degree.

"We are definitely aware of it," Palmer-Buckle said. "But we feel it our duty to meet him and find out what are the things that unite us more than divide us."

Earlier this week, the Ghanian prelate leading the three-week meeting on the Church in Africa, Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson of Cape Coast, Ghana, cited Obama's election in saying he didn't see any reason why there couldn't now be a black pope.

And the archbishop of Kinshasa, Congo, Monsignor Laurent Monsengwo Pasinya, told the formal synod itself that it would be wise to not ignore what he called a "primordial event" in recent times.

"If the election of a black as head of the United States of America was a divine sign and a sign from the Holy Spirit for the reconciliation of races and ethnic groups for peaceful relations ... this synod and the universal church would gain from not ignoring this primordial event of contemporary history which is far from being a banal game of political alliances," he said in his speech.

Archbishop John Onaiyekan of Abuja, Nigeria gave more tangible reasons for praise in meeting with reporters.

"Obama has the authority to talk straight to our bad leaders and tell them they are messing up our countries," he said. Besides, he added, "In Africa we are always happy when our brother is big."

What is he going to be the ruler of Africa now, the Africans are the ones who sold there people into slavery, not whitey.

I look at him as more of the creator of a Sodom and Gamora atmosphere anyway.

"Righteousness exalteth a nation; But sin is a reproach to any people."

Proverbs 14:34

Our nation is no longer righteous. We have lost our discernment. This is the reason we are afflicted with the government we currently possess. Obama is no messenger of God but he may well be the punishment God deems fit for us in our current wretched state. If the American people as a whole could truly discern the difference between right and wrong for themselves then both political parties couldn't foist upon us contemptible candidates who are both deceitful and inept.

Come on! Obamas not the messiah. More like the anti-christ.

This is starting to sound a little too similar to the Rastafari Movement. Is Obama the reincarnation of Haile Selassie? Wouldn't surprise me if some believe it.

"Obama has the authority to talk straight to our bad leaders and tell them they are messing up our countries..."

HA! Obama has never met a tyrant he doesn't like. Rather, it's precisely the opposite.

Obama fancies himself as an African strongman, now in charge of America.

Like any African potentate, he's already using Air Force One and his gigantic entourage for "date nights" and whimsical trips to Paris. I expect a law to be passed any day now that requires his adoring subjects to present him with his weight in gold.

He won't change anything about Africa. He will only enforce their rule. He's jealous of them.

Archbishop Gabriel Charles Palmer-Buckle comparing Joseph in Egypt in the Old Testament to Obama might be a bit embarrassing when we realize that, under Joseph:

1. In the first year of the famine, the people spent all their money to buy grain from the government
2. In the second year of the famine, when their money ran out, they gave all their livestock to the government to get grain.
3. Finally, with no money or livestock, the egyptions gave all their land to the government in exchange for grain.

The end result is the population ending up as literal slaves to their government.

Perhaps the Archbishop's comparison of Joseph to Obama is more accurate than he intended.

How on earth could any Catholic official support Obama? How do you reconcile Obama's support for abortion and live birth abortion (although that should be called live birth murder) and "Thou shall not kill?" So these black bishops are willing to overlook these differences in favor of what they have in common? I'm sure they mean their skin color.

This is why a Reformation was needed back in the 16th century. These men are Roman Catholic bishops and they put 'race' before issues of abortion, homosexually, euthanasia, etc. & etc.. I know 'race' trumps all in the American black community but I expected better from Roman Catholic bishops, even if they are black. I guess I was wrong.

Ain't this great! This from a race who were eating each other a couple of hundred years ago. Now the blacks are saying we should worship barry?

As a Catholic I am ambivalent about this. It could indeed be a blessing to show the world that left wing ideology is indeed something that should be relegated to oblivion. It could also force people to finally accept governments cannot change the world but it should be the individual's responsibility to care for their neighbor in acts and deeds. But it is a confusing message. Has it not been asserted that president Bush was one of the best presidents in history for Africa?

Perhaps Obama's election is part of God's permissive will to allow evildoers to rise in authority and act as instruments of chastisement of an immoral humanity in America that butchers millions of the innocent unborn.

Also, remember that there have been bad bishops in the Church going all the way back to Judas.

There is nothing to unite a true believer to one that would advocate and actively promote the murder of the most innocent among us. I think their feelings are simply a reflection of the color of his skin and not what is in their hearts. If they think they can find common ground with a person that believes killing babies is okay, they need to go and reread their Bibles.

So God's plan was to put in Carter, and Reagan, Bush and Obama. Funny bizarre way of thinking.

I have been in Africa 12 times, usually speaking at meetings of Christian intercessors (i.e.prayer meetings). I find the serious balck African Christians see through Obama and know he is evil. However, far too many Africans, including those that should know better have "drank the juice". Part of the issue is that they do not have access to a lot of the resources available to conservatives in America (i.e. websites, blogs, books, Fox News etc.).

Did God also plan on putting in Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, Chavez, Castro too? Or does god ignore the little people?

God doesn't help someone who EMBRACES and PROMOTES all sorts of deviancy (mass abortion, late-term abortion, homosexuality, pedophelia (e.g.-Kevin Jennings), transgender mutilation, embryonic stemcell research, child prostitution (e.g.-ACORN), long term welfare state (sloth), drug legalization, etc. Barry Sotoero is more like the anti-Christ.......

Ah yes, liberals and acting on how they feel about things and completely ignoring the law. I don't know about anybody else but Obama could be crapping bars of gold but I still will not support him because he is pro abortion. He is also not from the United States so he really doesn't qualify as president. When our next president finally takes the office this man is occupying then we will finally have a real president.

Yes, obama in God's Plan, Armageddon perhaps.
I expected better from Catholic bishops but obviously they too have been duped.

This won't inflate Obama's bloated ego any will it? This is absolutely rediculous. I can't believe how many consider this guy either a demigod or outright god. And many of them are the same ones who call Christians fanatics. What a crock.....
